Learning About Remembrance Day - A Creative Tribute
This week, Primary 5 have been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day and the importance of honouring those who have served and sacrificed. Through stories, discussions, and reflection, the children have gained a deeper understanding of why we wear poppies and take time to remember.
We read The Fallen by Laurence Binyon, a moving poem that reminds us of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace. The children listened thoughtfully and shared their ideas about what remembrance means to them.
To mark this special occasion, the children got creative with two beautiful poppy-themed crafts:
Cutting Craft Poppies – Using red and black paper, the children carefully cut and assembled their own poppies. This hands-on activity helped develop fine motor skills while reinforcing the symbolism of the poppy.
Suncatcher Poppies – We also made vibrant suncatcher poppies using tissue paper and clear contact sheets. These lovely creations now hang in our classroom windows, catching the light and serving as a gentle reminder of remembrance and hope.
We’re so proud of the thoughtful conversations and beautiful artwork the children have shared. It’s been a meaningful way to connect with history and express gratitude through creativity.
